>>1488151When I need to get shit done I use starter fluid and a long BBQ lighter. When I don't need to get shit done and I'm relaxing, I practice other methods like hand drill or just magnesium fire starter and flint.
>>1488236> whats the best position or fire design to get good airflow by blowing?Position? Upwind. Design for airflow? Dakota firehole, but those are not all that fun to make. However, I recommend using a bellows. Either a traditional one or just a hollow tube you can blow through. There's a stainless steel one that collapses like an antenna. They are called, "pocket bellows" and are pretty cheap on Amazon. Just use it for the starting of the fire to get your tinder and kindling going. Don't use it like what most promotion photos show, with some guy blowing into a full fire. lol
If you don't have a bellows then leave some gaps at the bottom to blow in on at least 2 sides. That way you can switch sides if the wind changes and blows smoke on your face. The log cabin fire allows this by its initial design. The tee-pee fire will need you to make those holes as you build it, but normally a tee-pee fire should only have 1 hole on the upwind side so you can blow into it.
Here's the thing, if you've built the fire correctly, you sholdn't need to blow on it. Either, you should only need to blow on the tinder bundle and it will be in your hands at that time. Once the tinder bundle is raging and you are in danger of singing your fingers you stuff it under the kindling. Or, the tinder bundle is already under the kindling and you just light it with sparks from a ferro rod or with a lighter.
