How tight is too tight for boots? How to reduce sores and blisters?
I sat on my couch for 4 months after I lost my wagie job. However I’m on day 6 of a construction job doing general labor and my feet are fucking killing me? Is it a socks problem? Would an insole help? Are my 4 year old Carolinas just too old?

Well if you do nothing for a long time and then start moving some pain is normal.

As long as they keep water out, let your toes breathe, and the foodbed is supportive, no they are probably not too old. If you're in construction you really ought to have steel toe capped boots unless you want to spend another few months in destitution with a broken set of toes. Depending on where your feet are aching you could try relacing the boot differently.

Double up your socks. Thin pair on first, then a thicker pair on top. This way the boot will rub on the socks rather than your foot. If you keep getting recurring blisters try putting a plaster (I believe you'd call it a band aid?) where they keep popping up.

Use laces to adjust tightness. Your foot should not move inside the footwear. When you are getting hot, more blood flow is needed in your feet and they will swell up a bit, making the footwear tighter. Adjust the laces to prevent blocking of the blood flow during that time.

Socks are meant to take the place of your skin. They are meant to be the barrier that will slip and slide inside the show, instead of against your skin. Good socks won't slip across your skin. If they do then they will cause a blister.

An insole can help tighten up your footwear if the laces are unable to help in certain areas.

Rigid footwear can cause all manner of problems for your feet. Make sure they are ergonomic enough to bend in the correct places without putting pressure on your foot in those places. One example is the top of the arch on your foot.

Bring extra pairs of sock with you. That way, if one pair loosens up you can swap it out and help prevent blisters. Wet socks and wet footwear help create blisters more quickly. Keep your feet dry.

It's normal to be walking on pins for the first three or five days. Take a hot shower when you get home, stretch, and get off it for the night.
In the long run, you want to invest in some decent replacement insoles. I carry the mail, use superfeet. They took a week to get used to, but since have nearly eliminated fatigue on my feet themselves.
Good boots don't get old, just resoled when needed.

Change how you lace? I've noticed certain styles offer more ankle movement and grab your shin more. Also be aware of your posture at all times.

I have a habit of lifting with one foot pointing in the direction I want to go and the other in the correct squat position. After lifting and over the years im noticing my foot calluses different and the muscles in my leg are too.

Little details make a huge difference.

since you're at a construction job, if those aren't steel toed, get some steel toed boots and the really thick socks that are made specifically for steel toed boots. you should probably wear thin ankle socks under those. the ones i have always wear out fast though so i'm not sure if layering socks contributes to that or if i just have shitty socks.

Boot question. I have a pair of boots that are about 1 or 1.5 sizes too large. They fit great width wise, but theres a good inch of room in front of my toe. Would these casue blisters if i hiked in them? I figure i could replace the insole and wear thicker socks to ward off most of the oversize issues, but that much forward movement still kinda worries me.

Instead of your skin blistering due to friction, the tape gets all the friction instead and your skin is safe. It's arguably not a long-term solution. That's not to large, that's how hiking boots should be. If you tie them properly and wear good socks you most likely won't get blisters.

There should be a bit of room in the front (about a thumb is what I remember so you're probably good), you don't want to get your toes fucked up by not having sufficient space, especially downhill.
Just tie them properly and make sure you're not sliding in the boot, if you're concerned about blisters liner socks will help a bit, both with size and general friction.
If you feel like your heel isn't secure try a pseudo surgeon's knot at about the midway point of the shoe to cinch your heel down better and get control over the foot and shaft area of the boot separately.
But fuck what do I know, I still get a lot of blisters but at least the skin on my feet hasn't started sloughing off.

Regulations for safety footwear: hard toecaps, puncture resistant plates embedded in soles.

If you are asking about /out/doors boots - simply stronger materials (full-grain leather upper, rant and solid rubber outsole) are heavy. Lighter boots are made of a mix of split leathers and fabric which don't stand to cuts and a lot of seams add weak points. Light soles are glued which is also not going to last. There are injected PU soles, which are both light and sturdy, but they are also expensive af.

You could try different methods of lacing your boots. I have mine set up to basically skip the first eyelet and that does wonders for my wide feet. There's tons of guides for different lacing methods, spend some time at home messing with different setups and see if any feel good.

Get a thin liner sock which acts as a second layer of skin and a thicker sock over that, make sure the socks are not cotton.

A shock dampening insole will help.

Yes I am skelly. Getting /fit/ tho. Racked on like 5 lbs this week and scored a gym membership.
Also. Duct tape fixed the problem. I take a 4 inch strip and put it sticky side to sticky side on a piece that’s like 7 inches and wrap behind my tendon. Then I throw on a tight sock. Fucking magic honestly. And. Tomorrow after I get paid imma pick up some Gucci insoles.

I tried a lot of boots when i was a milfag and oakley assaults were the best. perfect snug fit, lightweight, very comfy. They absolutely shit on all the other boots I wore. The onyl two cons are, the stitching is not as durable as other heavy boots like altamas and the padding is so absorbent that they take a long time to dry when totally wet. The stitching at least can be repaired easily.
