Thinking of getting a dog when I move house, any recommendations? I camp and hike a lot, many times in the snow (live in the Sierras right now). What dogs are good for this, and also hunting?

Brittanies are great hunters. They are good options if you don’t want something huge, mine is 30 pounds, though he’s on the smaller end for the breed. They’re very happy and fun dogs. All hunters need some space, so make sure you give them some to run.

I’m seconding the Brittany mentioned earlier and suggesting a Vizsla as well. Great hunting dog if you’re into that. If not, they are very energetic, lots of stamina for long hikes, compassionate and won’t leave your side. Additionally, they’re great indoor dogs for times that you aren’t able to get out. Big bonus for vizslas is that their coat is “silky” smooth and it’s very difficult for burrs and other junk to get stuck to it.
