So I know you guys gotta answer the same dumb questions all the time but I need the info.

As someone who's never camped around black bears and wolves before I just need some basic protocol.

I got a bear bag to tree up my food and all but specifically do you guys cook away from your camp site always? Do you tree your whole pack?

Do you keep your pack in your tent even without food in it?

I'm not particularly worried but I am bringing another who's less experienced in /out/ than I am.

Just get a gun and some bearspray if you are worried, thats enough to deter most threats from bear,wolves, lions and tweakers

I don't worry about bears too much. If I remember I'll set my food about 100 yards from my tent, but that's it. I always have a gun handy so if they come at me I'll be okay.

Just make sure your food is somewhat hard to access but it’s probanly better for it to be nearby in case the cunts try to go after it anyways. Black bears are giant pussies and usually wouldn’t fuck with a person unless you scared the piss out of it, so as long as you get loud and stand up straight you should be fine. Never run from a black bear. Be happy you aren’t fucking around with grizzly bears because they’ll destroy you.

Honestly, most bears will leave you be. I've made many upon many rookie mistakes with them and lived to tell the tale. This includes getting between a mother bear and her cubs. (granted our bears are fairly tame)

My "bear safety" set up is as follows:
1. My food and cooking equipment goes up in a tree about 100 feet away from my camp.

2. I cook in my camp but scraps get burned or fed to the dog.

3. I carry bear spray as its a safer option then guns (statically speaking)

4. Not bear related really but more cougar I guess I carry a machete and sleep beside one.

5. I use a bear bell.

6. If I am hunting, fishing, skinning etc I do that away from camp and keep anything I am keeping away.

7. That's about it, cougars more often find my path then bears here as we have the largest cougar population in my country literally up on my nearby mountain.

Hopefully some help is there.

Statistics are misleading, most people buy a "bear gun" but never train with it and get fucked if they actually need it (almost never), most bear spray uses are on curious bears rather than aggressive ones.
I would just bring both, dont feel like using bear spray in a tent and gassing myself and not the bear.

Its actually pretty simple now, the 2000s were confusing though.

Just a few thoughts, I havnt read into the effectivness of bear spray since I have not hiked in parks with grizzlies yet. I dont want to discourage anyone from using a firearm as it is your life.

I live in Alaska and I hide from them. They're to fat to come up get me anyways. I'm usually only out for a few days so I just either go full vegan, just bring cut up vegetables and nuts, or Mountain House with a Jet Boil.

Don't run from ANY bear, you can't outrun them, they can run at 30+ mph and it triggers their predatory instinct, that's why you stand your ground, it makes the bear think you're tougher than he is and not afraid of it. You're in more danger from skinny bears than fat ones, skinny bears are hungry and desperate. You'll have to fight.

Better to ask than to not know.

If you move toward a bear, it'll see you as a threat and it'll defend itself... very effectively.

If you run away from a bear, it'll see you as food and it'll eat you.

If you stand your ground and talk calmly to a bear it'll see you as a friendly neighbor. Bears are solitary creatures and avoid friendly neighbors.

Neither, but I camp pretty deep in the woods. National park bears know people have food, and will act aggressively to get it; woods bears aren't sure if people are a threat or not, so they prefer to keep their distance.

It probably also helps that I vacuum bag all my food individually and burn off my wrappers and fish carcasses, so there's not a lot of food smell to begin with.

Yes.

They need to know:
1)No open containers of food. Whatever doesn't get eaten gets burned.
2)No cooking or eating inside the tent, ever.
3)No wiping hands on clothing.
4)Do not run in the woods.
5)Breaking these rules gets people killed.

If you hiking partner can't follow those rules, you're safer going alone.

I've got one of these coolers. What I do is keep it near where I cook and eat. My jeep and tent away from the cooler and where I cook/eat.

More often than not, bears aren't going after you, they're searching for food

Be sure to change your clothes once you finish cooking and eating.

Depends on the state, but in even the most restrictive states you have, by federal law, the right to travel with a firearm you legally own in your home state so long as you can't access it.

This means that you can drive right through New Jersey with a machine gun in the trunk so long as it is locked up and you do not stop/get out of the car. Getting out of the car means you could open up the trunk so don't do that.

That sounds onerous, but remember that you only need to do the above for the most restrictive states like NY, MA, NJ, IL, etc. Pretty much any red state or the recently-blue ones like CO are more chill about guns.
