Are these ripoffs? Just trying to find something on cheaper side so I can't stop blowing money on rentals until I get something better.

This afternoon, I shared a lift ride at Mt. Hood with a couple of snow boarders. One was a snow boarder instructor who seemed incapable of speaking a sentence without dropping an f-bomb. Those students of his were clearly an annoyance to be tolerated. He reminded me of how much I miss the days when ski resorts were not overrun by the legions of potty-mouthed, reckless mogul scrapers.

Several years skiier here, spent several weeks learning to snowboard and got the hang of it fairly well. But honestly it was fucking terrible, the utility is terrible, flat parts on slopes are terrible and it's just a pain in the ass, fucking binding and unbinding all the time.

I don't think it's the bindings settings so much as the actual length of the skis. Snowboards are much shorter and easier for that guy to do such a quick trick. I'll bet if you had shorter skis and moved bindings up along the ski this would be pretty close to possible.

IF you ever get the chance to try these at a demo day at the slopes they are absolutely radicool

There is nothing like it in any place in any store in any mountain shop.....these are the rage....

You will keep them forever and cherish their maneuverability through the steepest slopes and on the tightest woods runs.

You can literally own the hill on these things, learning in a single day.

Honestly, the best beginner spots in the NE is almost always in NH. Carriage road on Mt. Mossilakue, and Sherburne ski trail on Mt. Washington. IF your starting out don't go in the spring, like all the other ski fags. Go in either December or February. The spring is just a literal shitshow with large amounts of people and mud.

The best store to get AT or Tele gear at is IME or EMS in North Conway. They both have a really nice selection on AT bindings, an have other technical equipment like ice axes or crampons.

That sounds too tight. They should be snug but they shouldn't be cutting off blood flow. Depending on where it's tight a bootfitter might be able to make adjustments for you if you can't loosen the buckles far enough.

I had a miserable couple of seasons with my boot pressing up against some points on my foot causing a lot of pain. Saw a bootfitter and got them to heat mould a bit more space for my toe and it was like night and day.

This. Go skiing on tuesday/wednesday, avoid powder days and you'll usually be the only one on the run.
Never ski on a weekend or public holiday.
Never ski on a powder day (unless say, there's fresh snow on the weekend and then again mid-week, no-one'll go for fresh pow mid-week after a weekend powder day)
Always ski on Xmas, New Year's Day and the day after Halloween. Hill is fucking empty, especially Xmas morning.

yeah it's the only aids part of snowboarding, along with tree wells.
both have pros and cons though. i noticed skiiers are bigger snobs about conditions than snowboarders and skiiers refuse to go out if it's icy. on a snowboard idgaf if there's ice, board hangs onto it fine.

Sort of newbie snowboarder here. Been boarding for about 6 years now (I started in my late 20's) but I'm the kind of boarder who only goes a couple of times a season.
Did a ski season in Whistler one year, went up a hundred times through the season and learnt a lot. Was fine by the end.
The following season I went further inland to a small town with a small ski hill, not as fancy or in good condition as Whistler's.
Iunno if it was just me but the lifts at the smaller place were faster, rustier, dodgy and came in at Mach 5 onto a short, steep slope. Every time I went up I fucking stacked it every time.
After about 10 or 12 days on that hill I ended up just quitting because I got sick of always hitting my shoulder, my knee or near breaking my ankle disembarking off of the dodgy old lifts every time.
Been 2 or 3 years since then and I haven't gone boarding since.
I want to go but I think Whistler's lifts and convenience (lifts being in the middle of town) spoiled me. Haven't had the balls to go snowboarding again because now I just associate it with shitty rusty chairlifts and near killing myself getting off of them every time.

What do? Going to New Zealand for the next couple of years, Thinking I'll leave my snowboard behind this time because I've turned into a puss-puss who doesn't want to drop $1k or $2k into a season pass just to stack it on the chairlifts 2 or 3 times and quit again.

tl;dr was spoiled by good quality ski hill/infrastructure the first few times and since then dont feel like snowboarding cuz of shitty hills with crappy chairlifts

Still a wagecuck myself but one of the best jobs I ever had was at a ski / outdoor shop.

I'd have Mon and Tue off since those were our slowest days and I'd always go to the mountain and enjoy the fresh groomed trails in relative quiet

yeah this. i'd rather work slightly longer 4 days a week than 7 or 8 hours 5 days a week.
