>>151852>>Do tell me where you can find that particular area? Arizona, New Mexico and Utah have hundreds of square miles of nothing BUT flat rock. While driving back from Burning Man in 2007, we did some rock climbing on and camped on a couple of mesas. There wasn't even a grain of sand on top of them but the views were insane, especially at night. I've also camped on top of exposed sandstone bluffs in Tennessee & Kentucky.
In spring of 2010 I went on a smallish group camp to the Okefenokee Swamp in SE Georgia and camped on the wooden platform at Monkey Lake. We'd intended on tacking up mosquito netting at the shelter but during the pre-trip inspection/search the Ranger took away our hammer & nails (and our machete).
I've also noticed that many areas along the Appalachian Trail require you to camp only in designated spots. Often when you get there, that designated spot is a wooden platform.
Also camped on abandoned asphalt roads in the Florida Everglades where your choice was on the road or in the Sawgrass.
Been to Ontario 2X, Ice fished and camped on the ice in a dome tent floored with styrofoam and cardboard.
On every one of these occasions we camped in a free standing dome tent without stakes...
>>hypothetical situation that in the real world doesn't existIs this enough real world examples for you?
>>You really do sound like a foolOnce you get some real camping experience under your belt, you'll realize that you (and OP) are the fools.
