Saved a baby pigeon. It looked miserable, eyes were covered in some yellow crust so it was blinded, couldn't breathe well, didn't know how to fly.
Brought it home, washed his eyes, he could see but couldn't eat or drink. Brought it to the vet, his throat was apparently full of shit. He had trichomoniasis. Basically the gooey shit builds up in his throat which prevents him from being fed by his parents since he can't swallow food, slowly starving to death. His parents probably abandoned him.
So the vet gave me antibiotics and some powdered food. Had to mix them with water and force feed to the very end of his throat. He hated it but after 2 weeks of struggles, his throat was clear of the shit, and he started eating normal food on his own.
9 months later, he is healthy, however unfit to be released in the wild since the care was too intensively linked with humans. He was since then adopted by someone who loves animals.
I regularly help birds but nowhere as intensive as this one. Sometimes I bring in baby pigeons with claws stuck in big pieces of hard mud and release them back where I have found them after a quick bath and breaking up lumps of hardened mud. Sometimes I pick up swifts from the ground and immediately bring them to a rescue center.
I just love birds in general, I am a birder too. And thus why I think cats are niggers.
