Never been on this board before, but I figured i should come here in search for advice. I'm a 20 year old male living in eastern Florida currently, I grew up in Olympia, WA all my life and have good experience with fly fishing and backpacking and I mainly spent my childhood outdoors. I am wanting to work on a commercial salmon boat during the summer but I cant find any real information on where to get started. It seems the best way is to get a ticket and fly out there and "walk the docks" and try to find anyone who is need of a deckhabd or green horn. I know there is other options like working in processing plants, but I was primarily wanting to work on a boat cause thats where the money seems to be. Does anyone here have experience with commercial salmon fishing in alaska? What are the best ways to approach finding work? I know its long hours and its very mentally and physically demanding, but any information would be appreciated.
