We're seeing mining companies going in and target drilling the glacial till and then going after the hot spots with open pits and even underground workings through the loose dirt.

One place that interest me in my area a dredge accidentally dumped almost a thousand pounds of mercury overboard over 100 years ago. I have a feeling that mercury is on the bedrock now and full of gold. It's public land though, so not much hope of getting it even though bedrock there is remarkably shallow. The US has gotten extremely protective of its creeks and wetlands.
