I'm in San Francisco for a few weeks and want to do some /out/ shit to escape the homelessness and smell of weed.

Anyone know anywhere nice to go for a day/weekend of /out/ around here?

I'm thinking Yosemite for one weekend anyway. though I haven't planned it yet

Is that Stinson beach?

Great drive up there, did it recently. Windy as fuck on the beach though. SF looks deceptively warm in photos but is actually pretty chilly, definitely wasn't expecting it

pt reyes. palomarin is a good hike along the coast trail, and you can branch off and go up the ridge into some dank dougfir forests. good birding, good smells, good views.

be advised: palomarin gets really busy on the weekends

if you have to go to Yosemite on a weekend, make it to the gate as early as possible. the line can get p long, like hour-long wait status (if you don't have a pass). it's not quite the busy season yet, but you'd be surprised.

they also offer a shuttle service that picks people up outside the park in towns like Mariposa. if you take this bus, you don't have to pay an entry fee, and you skip the line.

sonoma coast state beaches are good. personal favorites of mine are Arched Rock and Goat Rock.

drive up to Salt Point and camp. check out the funky sea erosion and look for some late season mushrooms

go to lake tahoe. some trails could still be snowy, but hiking is possible. also, you could just ski or s'board

need a free wilderness permit from badger pass ranger station. might want to check in and see if you can still camp here. i feel like it's only a winter time thing

you can backpack camp in point reyes. reservations can be hard to come by with short notice, but sometimes Glen Camp and Sky Camp and Coast Camp can have openings

Mission Peak in Fremont is a good half-day activity. It's a mildly challenging 7 mile hike with about 2400ft of vert. It's kind of a normiefest with how many people are there every day but it also has its charm in a weird way. Good way to get a taste of California, imo

Tahoe for a weekend. Only 3h away. Still plenty of snow up there. Go skiing, snowboarding, showshoeing, or just hang out by the lake and get hammered at the various bars and restaurants along the water. Get freaky and go down to Reno where you can climb, do desert shit, etc

Castle Rock in Santa Cruz mountains is a good day activity. You can get a feel for the beautiful mountain towns and famous Skyline/Highway 9 roads that people love to race on. It's also just a nice drive. Tons of redwoods and other shit there. Castle Rock is also a famous climbing spot if you're into that. You can boulder on some low level shit or do full on climbing.

If you're feeling a little more ambitious, Redwood National Park is about 5 hours north and absolutely worth the drive. Yes, there are redwoods in the bay area, but the old growth forest up north is like nothing else in the world. Makes the sad, dry redwoods in the bay area look like matchsticks.

Muir Woods is on the north side of the GG bridge, redwoods, humbling. Half moon bay has nice cliff and rock formations and big surf. Both within 30 min(w/o traffic) of the city. Eat breakfast at Sears if you can. Grub steak for late night freak watching and eats.
