>>150649this again largely depends on your budget and what you plan to do with it
Im assuming that you probably want something cheap, mainly for simple tasks such as preparing food, carving and cutting
I'd recommend a Mora for a firsttime fixed blade knife, since they are dirt-cheap and have good quality, so even if you dont happen to like it you wont spend more than 30 bucks on it, while getting a quality knife
pic related is the knives I use
from top to bottom
opinel n.9 (15 euros) (carbon steel)
mora craftsman classic (bout 20 euros) carbon steel)
unbranded hunting knife (20 euros) stainless steel
for a more allround knife I'd say maybe a mora bushcraft, or heavy duty
generally I'd recommend going for carbon steel since it will hold an edge better, but this will also mean you will have to keep it from rusting and take good care of it
if you rather have a bigger knife you could look at the buck knives I hear they make some good stuff
also good knive manufacturers are becker, Ahti, condor, fallkniven,Esee and benchmade
but most of the latter are rather costly, albeit worth the money
