Jokes aside, if you have kids, it's a fucking nightmare trying to wrangle them while you're backpacking, and at times it's downright dangerous. Kids and women = constant reckless mistakes and constant bitching and moaning. The RV makes for a nice home base with first world provisions like heating/AC, showers, kitchens, beds, refrigerators, tons of medical equipment and an order of magnitude more storage for whatever the fuck you may want to bring (guns, fishing poles, inflatables, games, canopies, chairs, etc). Tbh the next time I go non-solo camping without the RV I'm probably bringing a few of our horses as pack animals and Oregon Trail LARPing with the family for a few nights or something, probably in the Sierras.
