I found this in the ground today while gardening. Its a trigger gaurd, definately for a muzzle loader, how old i couldnt say. Could be civil war; could be modern. Still an odd thing to find in one's backyard.

Damn son, I envy you. Too bad I'm not from the US to this kind of stuff wouldnt be foundable over here, there was no battle happening around. My goal is to find some french colonial stuff such as silver coins or other stuff like that. So far I've found old forged nails from the early 1900's.

Oh yes it would. I've been searching for this kind of stuff for ages. There was a native american dating from 500 BC to 1900~ that was discovered in 2007 a couple thousand feet near my work place( I work in a very remote place for a Controlled Harvest Zone called ZEC in Quebec). I went ot take a look last year but the University dug up and brought everything home with them.
