It's wool. Wool sheds water to a certain degree (which is why those wool cloaks were a thing) and doesn't become super nasty when it does get a little wet. Of course, a wool cap doesn't protect against rain in any way. If you want a hat to do that, get a felt hat. Wool cloak and felt hat (and/or wool hood) are the traditional european rain protection.

It truthfully is for biz as a consulting manager but it's also basically bombproof due to bench made construction, top tier as a gun belt for instance. Heirloom quality and brass buckle would take on a badass patina over time. I only wear 50/50 cotton/linen socks that have held up for way longer than any of my cheap cotton socks. Not for hiking though.
If you want to try something really different, wear linen footwraps. German or russian style... hell do both and post results.

German style is 40x40cm linen and works in ankle boots (those are austrian army heavy boots there btw.). Russian is longer, but usually done in jackboots, so I don't know if it will work in low boots.

I'm looking for suggestions for pants that don't restrict movement too much or squat your nuts. All the jeans I've had in the last while have done both, and I'm sick and tired of it. The waist section is like a shallow bowl, with no room for movement or my dangly nuts. Get an all cotton western shirt, and make sure your jeans and undershirt (if you have one) are 100% cotton as well, it absolutely makes a difference in breathability which will matter more than stretchiness or moisture wicking when you're above 100° with no ambient humidity to speak of. Wear a belt too.
