You can get to the edge of the NF on Juneau city transit, but it takes nearly an hour just to get there. Otherwise you can rent a car or there's your buses/shuttles that will take you farther in.

There's some decent bars and there's usually a band playing somewhere (Alaska has about 6-8 regular bands that are continuously touring the state since big acts rarely come up), there's a comedy group called Club Baby Seal that usually has a show going on somewhere. Alaska is also full of local festivals over the summer, too.

I have a bud that went to Juneau for work, are there any anons that actually live there? I heard the islands are absolutely gorgeous and the fishing is amazing. He went to a logging camp because the fishing boats all ended early. If anyone from there knows, he worked on that really shitty camp that burned down. Also, the city history(according to him) is super interesting and messed up.

I do part of the time. Honestly I recommend a different town in Southeast. The best /out/ time in Alaska is the summer and Juneau is full of fucking tourists all summer long. The Chilkats are better mountains anyway

its like any place, people and things get repetitive. I'm originally from homer but now live 30 minutes from the "big city" juneau.
If you have hobbies or are creative there's always something to do. I build bamboo fly rods, do competitive bbq and smoker cooking competitions, along with making some good ass moonshine and growing some good weed theres always enough to keep you going. my property was cheap and its on the water with a view of the islands. not a hard decision.

Anchorage is within an hour of pws, three of resurrection bay, and has access to tons of large lakes nearby. Anchorage has its choice of the kenai, chugach, talkeetna, and alaska ranges within a few hours drive. Anchorage contains a significant portion of the chugach mountains, and no one in anchorage is more than a half hours drive from several of the trailheads. It may not be in the most /out/ setting itself, but anyone with a car has access to a huge variety of locations.

Driving the Dalton highway to Prudhoe bay in July and possibly Dempster if I have time. Maybe one day before I pass there will be a Juneau highway. There were plans but I think the people of Juneau unsurprisingly are against it.
