Yes I have used mess kits in the past and currently use a Crusader Mess Tin when doing solo ventures.

I use the coleman hard anodized aluminum cookset. Usually I'll just take the big pot and pan because then a coleman fuel canister will fit perfectly inside it.

Here's the thing about Coleman: It's kinda bulky compared to premium stuff. It's kinda cheap in some ways that aren't that important to the function of the product. It's not too expensive. It works very well.
