Once when I was younger we went on a camp with several scout leaders and we had a workshop about knifes.
Everybody had to pull out their knife and lay it on the table. The instructor divided them into victorinox style knives, folding knives and knives in a sheath like my Buck.

Some dumb bitch that had one of those 13947 in 1 Victorinox knives was like "anon, why the fuck do you need a knife that big? my knife has way more tools"

When I was a kid in the scouts, I had a friend who'd had a rather sheltered lifestyle before and his parents had done everything for him. He doesn't go out. He hasn't camped in his life. Yet he considers himself a survivalist. Somehow he went out for a day hike with me and a few coworkers, managed to get himself lost on a very clear trail while in a group, and we didn't find him until we saw a park ranger drop him off in the parking lot while he was in tears. We don't know what happened and he refused to talk about anything.

People started "inviting" me out a lot after that. Most of the time it was just being "neighborly" instead of being about church. Well, he is successful and he's honestly really good at his career. He's just such a damn townie that he knows jack shit about places that don't have sidewalks.

The reason he came camping with me was that it was his idea. The guys at the office were talking about their /out/ excursions (which likely involved expensive everything and no real work accomplished) and he just had to have his own experience, since they're basically a bunch of "alpha" money-tossers.

I kind of have to blame my folks for this, a little. I'm a couple years older and my dad was spending so much time breaking me into world of rugged man stuff that my brother just got left behind, so my mom scooped him up and babied the hell out him.
