OP will no doubt be buying used, with no guarantee how much life is left in the vehicle. When, not if, the engine of a sprinter van or transmission of an RV inevitably crap out, you're out both your vehicle and your house, and must pay to replace both, likely around $10k for a decent one. Meanwhile, when a $5k pick-up dies you can take the $5k camper shell with you to the replacement.
It also allows that when you decide to set up shop in one place for a while you can easily remove the housing element from the transportation element. The camper can be lived in/slept in even off vehicle, they come with braces to keep them standing. This allows you to drive in and out of town without putting the additional strain on the vehicle. It also allows you to look like a normal guy in a pick-up instead of a pedophile/homeless trash in a van or caravan.
