There's a national seashore near my home. It's a part of the National Parks system. No dogs allowed on any trails, but there are a couple specific beaches where they are permitted.
Anyways, I'm maybe a half mile into a 10-mile dayhike, and lo and behold, I run into a couple with a dog, off leash, messing around in a stream beside the trail. The dog is digging around on the bank. It's literally a picture of why the "no dogs" rule exists. So, I tell them that dogs aren't allowed in this part of the park, and that they'll get probably get fined if a ranger sees them. The dog dad says that he didn't realize that rule existed, which is unlikely, considering there are signs at the beginning of the trail that state "no dogs," and give an explanation as to why that is.
Anyways, right in the middle of my hike, in a less frequented part of the park, I run into them again, going opposite on the trail. The dog is still with them, still off leash. I don't say anything to them, but I really wanted to yell about how they're disrespecting the National Parks system, and hurting the very same nature that they're presumably at this park to enjoy. Dogs fuck up the wilderness, especially along sensitive environments such as rivers and streams. They could go on their hike, and then take their dog to one of the beaches that it's allowed on. Why are some people so careless and disrespectful?
I felt like a narc for wanting to tattle on them when I got back to the ranger station/trailhead. Didn't do it, but honestly, I wish I had.
