If you dont have a rack:
>Get a rack, you should have one if your transporting kayaksor
>Try to find a cheap foam mattress. Throw mattress on top of car, put kayak on top, run straps through windows. If you run your straps through hardpoints on your kayak like handles then you dont really need to crank down on your straps in order to get your boat to stay on. If youre yarding on your straps to the point that you are worried about your crossbars putting a dent in your kayak, youre doing it wrong.
