Im not sure how the eurotunnel works, since I never used it, but could you try to get a ride with someone passing it by car and just give them some money for the fee?

I paid 10 quid to fly from London to Venice on a Wednesday.

I paid 12 quid to go from (I think it was) Victoria station to Gatwick airport.

Find some people sailing it or something and hitch a ride. It's generally called crewing though, not hitching. Just go hang out at some local yacht clubs and shit, you'll figure it out. Alternately, buy a plane ticket, you're in Europe and short flights are ridiculously fucking cheap.

I've picked up hitch hikers a few times in Dover, on my way to Belgium. Even took one chap to a party in a sewer with 100 other people then slept in a derelict palace after. He won't forget that in a hurry.
