There are youtube videos of guys getting brand new rifles and the barrels being put in totally fucked up. Metal shavings still left inside the gun. Poor coatings that are prone to rust.
So but an older used one - probably get a good deal on a barely used rifle. Most folks got one to hunt durr with and so the rifle only got used once or twice a year.
That, or save up your money for a Winchester. They are pricey, but you get what you pay for. Plus, you would be investing in a heirloom.
