>>1526818That does help and I wish more people did it. Thankfully, chicken-of-the-woods (Laetiporus spp.) is so distinct that just a single photo gives you 100% identification without fault, even without regard to subspecies identification.
>>1526821Stick to giant puffball (Calvatia gigantea,) chicken-of-the-woods (Laetiporus,) lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus,) and hen-of-the-woods (Grifola frondosa.) Those are really really difficult to get the identification wrong. Like you'd need to be very drunk, half blind, and currently getting a blowjob to identify them incorrectly. You can also go for pearl oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus,) since those are a pretty good newbie fungi to go for, so long as you are moderately okay at recognizing shelf fungi from other fungi. Morels/Morchella (Morchella esculenta) have "false morels" (several speices) that look alike you need to stay away from, but morels are good for moderately experienced foragers to target. Without lots of experience, and a second opinion, you can stay away from typical-looking mushrooms since there's a large amount of them that are deadly (as in you will die or need an organ transplant to survive then take immune suppressing meds for the rest of your now shorter life). But hey, cheer up! If you are careful, in the woods, you'll more than likely die in a car crash.
