Biolite is the poster boy for the kind of shit that looks like a good idea to people who have not cooked outdoors and don't actually hike or camp. It's meme gadgetry.
However the fundamental basis of it, thermoelectric conversion of heat into electricity, does work. If this could be turned into a product without the severe flaws of the Biolite, what would it look like?
My idea is something resembling a telescoping pole you prop up so one end is in the core of the campfire and the other end is the heat sink, with a 12v socket and 1-2 USB ports.
The whole thing would collapse into a package that stashes easily with your tent poles or in your bag.
