well fuck me, there's a lot of snow out there.
Even though the snowy season is ending (sort of), let's have a SNOWSHOE thread.

I've never really had the need for em until now, so I have basically no experience with them.

Since it's May and the snow is gone in most other parts of the country, you should be able to snag really good deals on snowshoes off ebay or craigslist. That said if it's late season sticky snow and you're going on well-broken in trails you might not need snowshoes and be better with microspikes or crampons. But find some trip reports to find out what conditions are like for the trails you're planning to hit

I went snowshoeing once in Tahoe in January or February I think. Made it like a tenth of a mile before concluding that this was impossible. My gf wanted to keep going (it was about a 1.5 mile hike and 1000 ft of elevation gain) but even with the shoes we just kept sinking and the terrain wasn’t level enough to get even surface weight distribution. Shit sucked
