Whats your thoughts on stores like Bass Pro Shops? Used to work there and their stock was always pretty good. Do you purchase from big stores like Cabellas and BPS, or do you buy your stuff from small businesse owners for your outdoor activities? Any dislikes and likes on the buisseness? Really interested in /out/ opinion on these stores.

Went there a few times. It’s alright, kinda gay. Website sucks ass. Prices are average. Store brand products also suck ass. I give it a 4/10

Also if it’s not something I can’t make myself I will buy it from an individual who can make it. For name brand stuff I go to the locally owned tackle shop.

I'll buy small, non-essential items (cook pots, sporks, etc) from places like that if the price is good but I'd much rather support small cottage industry type businesses when it comes to critical gear like packs, tents, and sleeping bags. I don't mind paying a premium for quality and I try to buy domestically whenever I can in all aspects of my life. I'd rather support my own people than help globalist villains make money by flipping cheap imports from soulless bugmen.

I'll go to Cabelas since I have one near me, but it depends on what I'm shopping for. Fin Feather Fur is superior if you're looking for guns, ammo, and reloading stuff, but Cabelas is better for camping gear. Also, I find staff at Fin Feather Fur are more eager to help, or even just shoot the shit with. The only store I don't shop at is Dick's really, I'll check out anything else.

BPS/Cabela's are one of those old-school americana places that I enjoy but they're also kind of a cancer. I have emotional attachments to them because I usually stop at one when going on big fishing trips i.e. Islamorada.

But I need a place that will allow me to be stupid from time to time. I love my comically oversized reel, and would have destroyed several more expensive bucktail jigs (instead of cheap, weedless football jigs) learning to cast it.
Sportco (local outlet scale retailer) is my go to for serious outfitting, but the bass pro is still where I go to experiment.

If I'm getting outdoor gear I try my best to shop local.
For high-end hunting and fishing gear I hit up Bass Pro or Cabela's (but never buy Bass Pro or Cabela's branded stuff). If I can't be fucked to make the drive or it's something small I just steal from Wally World.

Dick's here has a fair amount of hunting and fishing gear, though certainly not as much as Cabela's/BPS has online. I can't speak to Cabela's or BPS physical stores, as there isn't one within a hundred miles of me. Dick's is definitely a step up from Walmart, which is the other option here.

Something very comfy about them. Especially the fly fishing and camping sections. I don't know of many smaller places around so it's usually my go to.
