Hey guys London guy here, what are the laws on camping in the woods. Do i have to stick to camp sites? or can i just hike into Epping forest and set up a tent and fire there?

I dont want to stick to boring camp sites I want to do the rugged thing.

Any laws on this?

No, the uk police are not a joke, they are a fucking royal pain in the arsehole.. I wouldnt be suprised if i got arrested and fined £500 for carrying a tent into a wooded area. those are the kinds of laws you get buggered on in this country..

Technically illegal in England. Not so in Scotland interestingly.

Though it's unlikely to be a Police issue, most likely it would be local foresters or council workers bothering you. Just be discrete and practice LNT, most are unlikely to give a fuck if your not fucking their shit up.

well I haven't had any issues yet. If you display the scout mentality of leaving your camp in better condition than you found it that should ease any animosity. Providing you got your location right you shouldn't really be disturbed, let alone seen by anyone.

if you want to wild camp with little issues just go inawood far away from people. otherwise get your ass to dartmoor park or scotland where there are right to roam laws that let you legally get your rocks off in the woods.

tbh I'm in oxfordshire, there are plenty of woods and plenty of people who don't mind if they spot you camping in a wood. as long as your not fucking up by camping to close to where people live, lighting big ass fires, using damp wood for fire and making shit tones of smoke, leaving trash, cutting down live trees, shit like that.

you will be fine.
