It shouldn't be according to that pic, but I swear the sky seemed clearer and I could see fainter stuff in south Texas than in northern Nevada. I was expecting some amazing skies out there but they were somewhat disappointing.

In a dark enough sky, yeah you can see the bands and the dark regions. Its quite beautiful. Most images you see will have had their constrast and saturation bumped up, so you wont see so much of the purples and shit, but its still gorgeous

The area around Amsterdam and Rotterdam is really a shocking experience, even for me living in a yellowish-red zone. It is brightest during full moon with a sky slightly overcast with fog. Like living under a huge, glowing bowl.

It currently runs on 10% power because it killed birds at full wattage- literally burned them to death mid flight.

if you go wandering the desert by yourself you're fucked.
at least next to your vehicle you have food, water, shelter and a better chance of getting help from a passer by on the highway a few days later.
the australian desert is full of old car wrecks so if someone finds an abandoned car with no-one around no-one'll give a shit.
camp out next to it instead, someone'll see that your broken down and lend a hand usually.

Even though Finland has the 3rd lowest population density in Europe, there are still 13 US states with a lower population density. And even for Iceland having the lowest population density in Europe, there are still 9 US states with lower density. Run the light pollution map over a population density map and seems to line up nicely. Europe is just massively fucking populated compared to most of North America.
