Part of my work involves surveying tremendous amounts of land on foot; any advice for a durable and rain proof poncho?

I live in a rainforest and use poncho's. I have 2, one which has a longer back for backpacks (other wise you will have wet legs) and a normal one. In my experience just get a waterproof one at a out doors store and make sure it has a zipper, I think they call it a 1/4 zip, but those are good for venting, sometimes they get hot.

The reason I am replying to this post is because I am going to buy that.

Dd hammocks had an awesome poncho, was like a full remake bw poncho without the cancerpus material. Weighs a kilo, but wont flatter etc

ponchos fucking suck compared to raincoats. Poor coverage, water laps down around the shins, hood has very poor visual field, just sort of awkward to carry

ask yourself, is it so hard to wear rain pants and a jacket?

While I would personally prefer to have some sort of poncho or something in particular, a cap does an excellent job of deflecting rain from my face, regardless of what else I have on in rain. This is a much better recommendation than some people may realize.
