I haven't really seen a budget tent thread yet, and I'm buying a 2-person tent for a max of $80. Considering a Slumberjack Trail Tent 2, or the Eureka Tetragon 2. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I usually camp innadesert and use a milsurp bivy sack on the occasion I decide I need it. Why I'm interested is my son just turned six and it's time to get into backpacking with him. A better dad/kid tent would be cool.

The family does innawoods as car camping due to my wife's medical condition.

I'll be camping mostly in the deciduous forest region, so the tent will need to be completely waterproof. I'm not too concerned about the tent being too hot, but I am concerned about it not being warm enough in the winter.

That's just a vestibule, your going to vouch for it? How about the $250 tent that goes with it?

I have a Tetragon 120 for car camping and it's stood up for nearly ten years of regular camping.

That link is just the vestibule, but the Eureka Timberline 2 is a great little tent for what it is and is reasonably priced. Best of all it is super easy to put up.

$250 plus $43 for a vestibule does not come anywhere near the same area code as reasonably priced. See

Even though it looks like a nice tent, that's almost 4 times what OP wanted to spend.
