Some boots dry fast if you keep walking untill they're dry.
I can personally confirm that works on Grom Protektor boots, even in cold winter (had to cross creeks a few times, plus, well, deep show).

But other light footwear probably functions in similar fasion - movement (friction of fabric) and heat from foot does its job.

Jungle boots aka quick dry boots are superior to any solution currently available and if you're not interested in clammy feet then you could use plastic bags to wrap your feet before river crossings. Waterproof boots are a bitch once they get clogged while the glorified running shoes are really only fit for airsoft on abandoned buildings.

Old pair and new pair. They dont last very long if used hard, but they're cheap so it doesn't matter.
The new (3 months or so) pair seems different thsn previous ones (been wearing them /out/ for 15 years), so I'm not sure if I'll keep recomending them, but maybe I just need to break them down.

Grom boots guy here. Yes it is - as long as we're tslking about real polishing. The polish get sinside the leather, impregnating it, protecting, and the polish smooth surfice pushes water off.

Well I've spent six years as an /out/fitter and polish is not waterproofing. Beeswax, oil, nikwax, etc are waterproofing. Polish is a surface treatment to impart shine, it doesn't penetrate the leather. In fact it builds up in layers on the surface and can build up on the surface of the leather and inhibit actual waterproofing materials from doing their job unless you strip it off with saddlesoap and a brush. Polish is absolutely not waterproofing.

I just use this and put on a few coats and polish until it shines. Water will bead up on it and never penetrate. I'm out in everything from wet grass to 4 inches of water and mud without problems. I do that every day nearly all day long, especially if it is raining like it has been lately. At the end of the day I clean up the shoes and inspect them for abrasions or gouges and repair as needed. I've had the same boots for nearly 20 years now and only the tread has needed replacing.

Go get yourself some bees wax and lard (or any way and animal fat you can get, don't use bacon grease or other salty fats). Mix 50/50 and pour them in an old tobacco tin. For your first time just rub it on thick as shit and leave it in the sun then rub it in with your fingers. Your boots look pretty dry so put on multiple coats until it soaks it all up. After that I put it on every friday but I am in my boots every day for 10 hours, you could probably get by with less. Costs almost nothing, will add six months minimum to your boots, makes your boots look good, I highly recommend it.

Keeping them dry isn't all too feasible, but I do have a method for drying them quickly. Heat up a couple of non-porous rocks in the campfire and then place them inside of the wet boot. Dries them from the inside out.

It boggles my mind why /out/ is so hung up on boots.
I wear sandals and tennis shoes when it's warm, otherwise depends on the season. Boots are ok but sandals/tennis shoes are just better.

No one in their right mind who has ever worn a pair of real leather hiking or work boots into miserable conditions has tried to waterproof them with polish. Waterproofing comes from oiling and conditioning them. I'm not concerned with how pretty they are. Their age and wear tell a story.

This is the correct answer. Bonus points if you bring along a second pair of insoles that you can swap into after you walk through a stream and hang the wet ones on your pack to dry. Anyone who recommends big heavy waterproof boots has never been hiking in a wet area before.

Easiest option is to wear waterproof boots. Been wearing these guys for years through muck and puddles and creeks of all sort. Provided that the boot isnt entirely submerged, your feet will stay dry as a bone.

Honestly don't bother getting military boots unless you're trying to get them cheap at surplus or something. You'd be better off getting just plain hiking boots or the "tennis shoes" people are talking about here, since they're going to be lighter and less cumbersome. Military boots on the other hand I don't think would be as nice if you're hiking long distance.

Rocky S2v are pretty good. There's a jungle variety that's 670-1 compliant. If you're a Navy fag then they have a steel toe model, but it's got a thick liner and your feet will get hot.

I would recommend going to a store and trying on a bunch of shoes there. Pick ones you find most comfortable and fitting to your needs.
I would also recommend reading reviews if possible. All Särmä clothes and their production are at such early stages that much of them are just plain overpriced bullshit.

I'm due for some new boots. Last season I used some Merrill goretex hiking boots and they worked really well in some really wet conditions ( like walking through ankle deep water all day). However, my suggestion is to get some camp shoes like crocs (I know, I know) and switch over to those when you need to cross deep creeks or rivers.

There's a category of shoes for that, they're called water shoes. So you can get a lot of different styles if you don't like crocs

Waterproof boots are a meme. They will always find a way to get wet, and once they do - as you noted - they're very hard to dry, and also become full of water and awful to walk in.

The best solution is to wear light shoes that will get wet (not a problem really so long as they drain) and will dry easily.

Dry is a myth
If they are water resistant they will eventually get well and dry out slowly
If they are waterproof they will get wet from the inside (sweat) and dry out never
Embrace the jungle boot and the soggy feet, at least they dry quick

So, all you do is car camp, hike on well-maintained trails, and work in an office? Some of use travel where there's nothing but deep mud, briars, thistles & thorns, poison ivy, swarms of biting insects, livestock that like to step on toes, and any number of other hazards. Foot/toenail rot from wet feet all summer long is also no joke. You can get that just from a week's worth of hot rainy weather and wet feet 4 hours of each day. With water proofed boots, the only water will be your sweat at most. You either wear water proof boots or water proof them using polish or conditioner.
