What kind of shoes are you using for trail? I got coned by the salesman with pic related (Inov8 Roclite G grip) since I don't know much about trail running. I told him I wanted something 80% road and 20% trail, something more rugged than my old kinvaras. Can I actually do some road running with them?

Yes you can run on road with them, it 's not optimal for high level athletes, but it makes not difference for the average runner

I have the last year's non G version, very happy with them, not too bad for road but obviously the rubber wears out quick, graphene should help that although people do say it's not as sticky as the rubber version
otherwise this shoe is pretty much perfect, what speedcross should be but isn't because of its stupid huge drop
if you're somewhere where it's super muddy most of the year you might want something even more aggressive like the Mudclaw but otherwise this is a awesome, almost perfect shoe

so don't run on asphalt in the summer and run along the side of the gravel road in the grass.

Also, depending on the gravel being barefoot isn't that bad. The quarry gravel used for roads sucks, but anywhere with natural gravel is usually rounded from the water that made it and isn't bad at all.

Boots weigh down your feet and cause fatigue. Boots are great for rough terrain but redundant for well-maintained trails.

I wear Moabs for daily stuff, since I'm on my feet all day at work. I have an older, broken-in pair that I go hiking in. Best shoes I've ever owned. Only downside seems to be that when they start to stink, there's no saving them.

Got any boot recommendations? I had a pair of Lowa Renegades that lasted me for 5 years but the tread is pretty much gone. Was going to replace them but REI and Amazon both have tons of reviews of the soles on Renegades just separating from the boot after very short times. I'm hesitant to get another pair in case they have decided to start cutting corners and their quality went to shit.
