Big Island, everything said before are musts but I didn't see Waipio and Pololu valleys mentioned. All the way on the north tip are several valleys you can hike through, can make a big trip out of it if you want. Black sand beaches, waterfalls in the back of the valleys.
I don't believe in supernatural stuff, and maybe you don't either, but I'm always intrigued by the places where people report it the most. Friend of mine camped out there once with friends, all locals, partying on the beach. Apparently some sketchy guy was cruising around their fire and they let him hang out but he started freaking people out and talking to himself. My friend cornered him and asked him what was up, and he said he could see his ancestors and was talking to them. Spirits were pissed off at the debauchery happening in such a sacred place. Schizophrenic? yeah probably. But the place is super sacred to Hawaiians. King Kamehameha's birthplace. More nightmarcher sightings there than anywhere else.
All that aside, pretty fucking cool place. Pack your trash.
