>>1542850Don't get carried away with gear. Here's my setup, which is pretty affordable and mostly stuff I've had for many years. All figures are in USD (*0.8 British Pounds).
20 - US Army closed cell sleeping mat for insulation from the ground
35 - US Army assault pack
30 - US Army poncho liner (woobie, goes inside sleeping bag)
20 - Swiss Army alpenflage waterproof poncho (goes over backpack, straps through arm holes)
60 - Snugpack sleeping bag
80 - AquaQuest defender tarp, 10'x10'
10 - 50ft of 750lb tough grid paracord for guy lines and ridge line
5 - coleman ABS stakes
5 - coleman magnesium firestarter
40 - camennga lensatic compass (you can get a much lighter orienteering compass for 10)
15 - stainless steel water bottle (or just carry 2x 1.5L smartwaters instead)
40 - snow peak titanium pot and lid
20 - Sawyer mini water filter
10 - titanium spork from REI
55 - KABAR Short
25 - MPL-50 Soviet entrenching tool (for disposing waste)
All of this crap has been collected over a decade. Total is 470 USD, or £375. I plan to do a little camping nearby then eventually head out to France and walk the Way of Saint James. I need to weigh it all, but with extra pair of socks and flip flops and sarongs for down time and 2-3 tshirts, it comes out to about 30lb. Ten of which is the sleeping bag and waterproof tarp, which can be had much lighter if you wanted. Very easy load, and the assault pack sits up high on the shoulders.
