Do you have a can stove, Anon?

I love how cheap and light they are. They seem like a perfect addition to my short weekend escapades, but I don't have one yet - I'm not sure which DIY guide should I follow. Do you have any recommendations?

The penny ones and the open mouth ones seem best. Just make your own stand for pots. I don't like them despite how well they work. I dislike using liquid fuels for cooking/camping stuff. I use a rocket stove.

The most important thing is to get the holes the right size. If you get them too big or put too many it won't build up enough pressure. Also it works a lot better if you use scissors instead of a knife, since it leaves a cleaner edge that won't tear as easily. Use a pliers to twist the inside can at regular intervals so it slips inside. I have used cuts to make it smaller and used a full can to stretch the outside can so it would fit, but these methods tend to fuck up more often. I have had success with the basic two bottom penny design, but I want to try the arizona can design with the ring in the middle when I get the chance. If you are sitting the pot directly on the can be sure to let it warm up plenty before sitting it on or it will cool the can too much and stop the fuel boiling.

i tried it. pic related. complete waste. i did a bunch of research on what was the most efficient version of can stoves and fuel and ended up making a penny stove with heet in the yellow bottle for fuel. i even made windscreen/chimney's for it to improve its heat transfer, and it was still terrible. 7 minutes, iirc, just to bring 500 ml of water to a boil. i don't know how long it would sustain it, but it used up most of the fuel in the process, so i can't imagine it would be very long.

Have you guys heard about fancy feast stove?
There's no hole making, just 2 cans (tomato sauce and cat food) and some carbon felt. There's a build in stand for a pot and there's no need to preheat anything - it works more like an alcohol burner with a big wick rather than a stove where you're burning gas.

I've made and used several different kinds, and while the soda can and roll-top stoves do look cool while they burn, the supercat is lighter, burns less fuel and heats faster.

A supercat is just a catfood tin with two sets of large holes (from a hole punch) around the top. Because it burns the fuel in the center instead of creating a ring of jets around the outside, the heat is directed into the cookware better.
