If you insist on having a revolver, anything from .44 Remington magnum and up is fine, but the shit kicker with those is that you have to fine tune and practice with the fucking thing more than you would with a semi-auto to be able to build up your speed and accuracy if you're shooting double action.

The thing with guns in self defence against humans is that the mere presence of one can defuse a situation before it's even started, because humans know that guns are dangerous if they're at the business end of one. To my knowledge, humans are also more likely to calm right the fuck down when they're shot non-fatally. Animals don't really do that, as far as I know, which is why the .22s, 9mms, 45s and 5.56es are fucking memes as far as /out/ goes.
