Boots won't do shit in that regard. Trail runners are lighter and are shaped to conform more naturally to the foot. They are thus far less tiring to use and create less wear aka blisters and raw skin on the feet.
Trail runners are only inferior if you need weather protection from the snow or the cold or sand or w/e, or if you need a rigid sole because to wear crampons (though you can still use shoe crampons that work just fine for walking on snow drifts or ice).
