>incoming blog postSo i went to the grand and fished it for a few hours, but visibility was at 2 feet so i caught nothing, and whiffed my hook set on a dink; the only bite in that spot. I moved to the chagrin river, visibility was closer to 5 feet. I fished the fly in a few good looking holes and boulders, but mostly just searched with a whopper plopper. The water was super warm and structure scarce, but eventually i found a slow, deep pool in a bend. I got a solid 16 inch smallie on my plopper, but the hole was too far for me to reach with my fly rod effectively, so i just fished the plopper. I whiffed three hook sets before calling it a day because i had ran out of water an hour ago and i still had to walk q mile up stream to get back to my car. I definately intend to go there again under better conditions

>>1554667I tied it for bass and the odd hammer handle pike.
I started by tying a glass rattle to a vmc "XLWG X-Long Wide Gap" hook, then painting the rattle and thread black with nail polish. Lastly a coat of epoxy keeps everything secure (dragging over rocks for a day, plus a dink smallie, it held up flawlessly)
Then i tied in a clump of bucktail from near the tip of the tail so it wouldn't flare too much, and some flashabou. Next i made a dubbing loop full of craft fur and pearl ice dub, picked it out, wrapped and tied in, and picked it out again. 3 strands of krystal flash unevenly doubled over, reverse tied craft fur, head cement over a whip finish. You can tie it in any colour you want, you can put lead or tungsten in the place of the rattle to get more sink, you can tie it hook only and it will sink very slowly.
