>>156246Bro I have titanium, aluminum, steel, and cast iron camp cookware. Going on a 3 week trek? Bet your ass I'm trimming weight anywhere I can.
But facts are facts. I've been into cooking (like, real meals, not mac and cheese) for about 14 years now. Cast iron cooks better than any alternative. If I'm only hiking in for 2-3 nights a 6" cast iron skillet isn't much weight to carry in exchange for near-perfect heat distribution, ease of cleaning, high thermal mass (food doesn't get cold while you're eating), and durability.
If you're eating just-add-water freeze-dried space meals (which I like and use in certain circumstances), then yeah, you just need a boil container and a pocket stove.
But if you're like me and enjoy fishing, foraging, and actually cooking and preparing memorable camp meals, it pays to have the right tools. Like cast iron.
