Anyone know about bushwhacking/off-trail in the dolly sods?

I'm thinking of going there and camping out on the eastern plateau ridge, where bear rocks and stack rock are (but not in the bear rocks preserve). How feasible is bushwhacking along the ridgeline to get to either stack rocks or some of the other clearings to the south of bear rocks?
