Based Ernest, but I just used my Bear Grylls knife to make a quick ferro fire and cut a piece of birch bark to make a water container with, already got some pine resin melting to seal it with, and if the belt holding my pants up winds up being allowed, I've use the line and hooks to catch dinner.

if i'm alone probably a metal pot/canister that's the only thing you can't work around: good container that can boil water.

knife is a tremendous help but sharp rocks or bones and pieces of glass and sharpened fire hardened sticks are quiet usable. making fire is doable at most circumstances, if you are not in extreme cold drenched that's not a priority.

There are smaller trees there, you know. But you'd know that if you'd just leave your house for once in your life. Also, a bigger axe head doesn't make it any easier to chop down larger trees. It'll only exhaust you faster.

The Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro gives you both the ferro and knife, but it's a little ferro. The way I look at it, you try to mostly rely on friction fire, with the ferro for backup when it's wet and/or you've gotten too exhausted.

A good sharp hatchet. I got the blade of the knife and the leverage of a hatchet. Here in the Woods of New England food and water is pretty abundant and easy to access if you know where to look. So Id mostly just need a tool to help with making shelter.

Well, it now all depends on the "where"of that survival place. A knife can be made out of stone if you find any, but you'll have a hard time in any desert.
Cover, cordage, and combustion are "easy" as long as you have wood and a forest nearby.
So I'll go for a Container.

If you are in a desert and want one thing to survive, it is to stay sane and not die of anything else but yourself.
So a knife for planned suicide in case you do not survive is essential.
A knife in general is essential to kill yourself, really all you need is to numb your arm long enough to have then the patience to open it with the knife and cut the blood vessels following your bones.
