>>1566517>>1566537IMO It's about finding the sweet spot. When you're casting all day for big fish a rod that's light that can cast a mile effortlessly matched with a light, quality reel with very good drag makes a huge difference. It's like light and day.
Anybody serious about fishing knows the value of a good reel especially, shit gear lasts a few sessions when you're fishing for decent fish before either completely blowing up or fusing the drag washers.
I like to buy $300 AUD rods as I've found that's the sweet spot for me. In terms of reels, I fish Daiwas with magseal because they last a ridiculous amount of time fishing the salt before requiring a service. You can submerge them for minutes and water won't get in the internals.
2000 Caldia LT for light tackle fishing in the fresh and salt, 2500 2016 Certate for 10-15lb braid on a 3-6kg rod, 4000 2019 Certate LT for 30lb braid for barramundi and light deep water jigging for trevally and kingfish, and a 5000 2016 Catalina for heavy jigging with 80lb braid.
Here in Australia conditions are tough, fishing heavy drag and trying to pull them out of structure puts crazy strain on your gear. Nothing like large mouth which fight like a wet sock. Shit gear just doesn't cut it.
Do agree re: fly reels though, but can see some benefit in higher end fly rods when casting distance makes a difference.
Please tell me you fuckers don't buy eBay terminal tackle and braid?
