I plan on camping on public land for the real /out/ experience, slowly learning how to feed and protect myself out in the wilderness. However, my state (CA) has an epidemic of cartel-owned weed farms that are difficult to spot even by helicopter, and growers are known to kill people for getting too close. For example a hiker in the Humboldt area was shot earlier this year for being near a farm. Plenty of people go missing in the mountains/parks, and it wasn't nature that got them. Sometimes if you're obviously a hiker/camper they'll tell you to fuck off but I'm not counting on being lucky.

How am I supposed to deal with people who will kill me for getting close to something I have no idea is there? I feel like I don't even have a chance to truly go camping, I'm stuck in popular, crowded campsites, where it's safe. Somebody on this board has to have dealt with this before.
