Hey /out/, anyone have experience trapping? I'm looking into it as a potential hobby this fall when trapping/hunting season opens up.

I know I said that I was done with you, but I might as well beat you down one last time. No the animal populations wouldn't have increased over time. Many animals had been commercially harvested to the brink of extinction by the late 19th century. If it wasn't for conservation groups like Boone and Crockett (founded and operated by recreational hunters) many North American species that are abundant today would not be here.

That's not how it works, and you know it. I have actual statistics to prove that wildlife numbers have increased and are far more healthy today than they were 100 years ago. Wildlife agenices and biologists will continue to follow the North America Model of Wildlife Conservation that has worked wonders and will continue to do so.

It literally is. Animals which have better hearing, smell and eyesight are more likely to detect hunters and move away, and so survive to breed while the animals that don't spot them don't. Sorry it doesn't agree with your retarded whine, but that is exactly how evolutionary pressure works.

Biologist Anon here again: hunting is a far more sustainable way to provide high quality dietary protein than agriculture could ever be, and also has the advantage of being significantly better for the environment in terms of soil erosion, habitat destruction and greenhouse gas emissions. Most of my friends eat meat and are intelligent enough to realise that in a debate over the morality of hunting versus agricultural meat production, hunting wins by a landslide. Plus I give them tasty meat and fish if I take more than I can use myself, so they're not complaining. I actually have more respect for vegans in this debate; at least their position on meat is intellectually honest. That said, vegans need to face some hard truths about how unethical things like onions, quinoa and avocado are.

For example, when Penn & Teller did their "Penn and Teller Bullshit" episode on PETA, they talked to an animal liberationist academic who supports the ALF (a known terrorist group). P&T pointed out that the academic in question was wearing a leather belt and shoes, and that even if they were made of fake leather, he was still perpetuating a style-driven demand for animal hide. I have trapped in the past, but fur prices tanked, and I can no longer make a profit. Too many people have fur ranches and this over supply made fur prices plummet.
You couldn’t sell raccoon or coyote.
Mink was only bringing $5 - $8
Beaver was about $10 for pelts, $40-$50 per pound for caster.
I would spend more in gas driving to check my traps, then I would make on fur. Add in the time to flesh, stretch and dry the fur.
