Going for a 3 weeks walk in norvegia.
Can you recommand me a good and cheap jacket to protect me from the rain ? (I am new to walking and this will be my first trip)

Dead bird is a bit overkill for just a rain shell. I use a patagonia stretchy shell made of 2.5 eVent. Very light and packs super small.

Any lightweight 2.5 layer rain jacket from a reputable company with pit zips in the $100-250 range will be great. What you posted is a hardshell and will be hot, heavy, and overkill outside of winter or high altitude.

Some examples
>rab downpour
>marmot precip
>patagonia torrentshell
>marmot minimalist
>the north face dryzzle
>mammut kento
>outdoor research foray
>most arcteryx sl series (although priced well above competition for minimal if any advantages)

Hardshells are for winter conditions where extreme weather protection is life or death and high abrasion is a certainty.

Go to walmart and get a frogg togg stormwatch. It honestly looks and fits better than my $250 patagonia and feels completely waterproof.

OP I recommend a rainsuit, such as Frogg Toggs or Dry Ducks. To my understanding PVC tears more easily, and traps moisture. Possibly melts?

I have a deadbird Beta LT I scored for 75% off and I use it frequently. Even when it's 80 F out, I can wear it and not be hot. It's just a hardshell. There's no insulation at all, hence why you can wear it even when it's a tad warm outside. I've hiked in this thing when it was pouring rain in Olympic National Park in 70 F heat and was doing better than my friends who had some of the jackets you listed.

Plus, all of the jackets you've posted weigh considerably more or a little bit more than my Beta LT, which is 12 Oz. I don't know where you're getting the 'heavy and cumbersome' from.

It's a model that explicitly tries to be very lightweight, hence the name LT. It's not a good point of comparison to hardshells in general which tend to be heavier and warmer due to thicker material. Another similar jacket would be the Alpha FL or OR Interstellar. They're not good hardshell reference points, they're outliers.

But it’s goretex lol. It’s ridiculously durable, hardshells don’t apply to just thick af Antarctic goretex jackets, that’s a hardshell that will work in all conditions in North America.

But for weight, size, effectiveness, they're worth it. I grab one set a year, just to regularly phase out any damage.

OP are you staying in hotels or camping? I don't know Norvegia but if you don't have the chance to dry out, softer coats can get soaked, fail and smell.
