to reformulate: it's virtually impossible for bacteria to develop resistance to an essential oil because it consists of many active substances that 'attack' simultaneously, unlike synthetic antibiotics - only one active substance, which might or might not be effective
you can visually see this in the antibiograms performed when a certain bacteria is discovered in your throat, for example, and they need to see what type of antibiotic might kill it
there are a few studies online regarding the antibacterial effect of essential oils, most of which go like this:
>Results: The results obtained showed that essential oil of the leaves of E. globulus has antimicrobial activity against gram negative bacteria (E. coli) as well as gram positive bacteria (S. aureus).>Conclusion: The encouraging results indicate the essential oil of E. globulus leaves might be exploited as natural antibiotic for the treatment of several infectious diseases caused by these two germs>Results: Studied essential oils showed a good antimicrobial activity and high ability in E. faecalis biofilm eradication, whether for sensitive or multidrug-resistant strains, especially those of Origanum glandulosum and Thymbra capitata>Conclusions: Findings of this study indicate that essential oils extracted from aromatic plants can be used in treatment of intractable oral infections, especially caused by biofilm of multidrug-resistant E. faecalis.again, not to put my tinfoil hat on, but things to make you go hmm:
1. studies persistently end in 'encouraging' & 'could indicate', but there's never a follow-up disproving it neither an actual treatment based on it
not saying scientists have to be suicided, but 'an offer they can't refuse' can be just as effective
2. npcs have the strangest adverse reactions to their mere mention, akin to those of fedorists when any hint of religion is involved/liberals about guns/feminists around men etc
