Feel free to post tobaccos (no weed allowed), pipes, collections, pics of favorite combos for going /out/, pics of what you're doing with your pipe and any questions you might have.
Want to get into smoking pipes without spending too much cash?
Get a Missouri Meerschaum Legend corncob pipe and a pouch of either Prince Albert, Carter Hall or Half and Half tobacco, available at most drugstores.
What you'll need: pipe, tobacco, lighter or matches, pipe cleaners, and either a regular old nail or a pipe tool (combination tamper, scoop, and small pick).
All of these together should run you less than $20.
Having trouble keeping your pipe lit? Fill it with less tobacco and smoke it slower than you think you need to, lightly tamping as needed when the smoke starts thinning out.
If you're still having trouble, try filling your pipe this way:

Is the addiction to pipe smoking similar to the impulsiveness of addiction to cigs? Do you guys find yourselves reaching for your pipe every day even when you've made a decision that you're a once-per-week smoker or something?
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>1574364 It's not similar at all for me. I used to smoke cigarettes and I still remember what those cravings were like. It was more intertwined with everyday activities than pipe smoking is; I would smoke every time I drove, whenever I got home, when I had coffee, when I had beer, etc. Pipe smoking isn't "linked" with any other activities for me. It's nice to have a coffee and a pipe but I don't HAVE to have a pipe when I have a cup of joe. I probably only smoke a bowl three times a week at max.

In general, the entire F&T range is like that - top shelf blends that with really unique scents. I personally don’t like Kendal Browns. But I also don’t much like Sam Gawith - the only snuff I buy from them regularly is Elmo’s Reserve.
Whether or not you enjoy the snuff you bought, I’d suggest picking up a German-style snuff from Bernard (like Zweifacher or Brasil), and an English-style mentholated snuff (like Radfords or Wilson’s Bee M). I passed on snuff for a long time because I thought every snuff was going to be like an SP, which I really didn’t enjoy (and still don’t) - which was about as dumb as passing on pipe smoking because you think every blend is a lakeland.

Isn't it contrary to the very nature of pipe smoking to have a forum about it? The meditative activity of smoking and contemplating seems almost betrayed by the attempt to share it with someone, the wisp of peace and harmony blown away by the breath of speech. The pipe itself is a symbol of the phallus and masculinity, the lone One in opposition to the multitudinous feminine. What I do is on a sunny day I go sit on the riverbank, take a hit of weed and then smoke my pipe on and off for a few hours, sometimes listening to an audiobook or music, or reading a book.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>1576266 I don't think so. Why do I have to light up every minute? It's really fucking tiring. I mean, how much do I have to dry the damn tobacco? Others don't seem to have such problems so often, I hear people smoking of quite humid tobacco online. Maybe it's my corncob pipe? Anonymous
>>1576499 Go check out muttnchoppiper on youtube, He has a video on breathing methods. I found that I do not have to light as often after following one of the methods he talked about.

Anonymous
>>1576502 I'm smoking an oriental, greek exclusive blend (Wolfway Medusa Pyramid)
I pack it either with 3 step or the video in the OP (which worked quite well, but still not good enough for me)
It seems to me that for it to light well and stay lit I have to let blends dry a lot, which is kind of disapointing to me.
This is my second blend (im a beginner). My first blend was mcbaren scottish. I had the same problems with it, but towards the end the pouch dried up and thusly lit very well (especially outside)
Lighting all the time makes my tounge leathery and gives a very strong flavour when lit, hides all the subtle tasty goodness of the smoke.
I just kinda feel like the tobacco should work as is out-of-the-box? I haven't seen others online have that big of a problem with it, even beginners.

I always let my blends dry before i smoke them, depending on how wet the tobacco feels. Generally i just spread some tobacco i plan to smoke out on a paper plate and wait 10-15 minutes or until it feels dry enough ( but not dry so that it's crispy and turns to powder).
When I got to pack my pipe, i sprinkle tobacco in until it reaches the brim , tap on the side so it packs itself and sprinkle some more in until it reaches the brim again; then i do the 3 step tamping with a czech tool instead of my fingers and that works best for me. You may just have to try different things and find what works best for you.

Ok boys it's time for the obligatory noob of the thread. Anything wrong with getting one of those cheap reddish colored pipes from a smoke shop for a beginner? Tobacco recommendations for beginner?
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>1582227 Not really, especially to get going.
For decent beginner tobaccos that are pretty tasty, widely available and inexpensive, try Half and Half, Carter Hall or Super Value English Mixture.
Aromatics like Captain Black are much more fussy to smoke and not nearly as flavorful. They smell nice to other people, but taste like wet paper.
Anonymous
>>1582227 I would recommend a Mr Brog pear root pipe if you're on a budget. Polish made, smokes a bit sweeter than briar, and has some durability. Some call them the "Polish Dr Grabow". Key beginner tobaccos, in my opinion, would be Lane 1-Q, Newminster round slices or Stokkebye Bullseye Flake, and Dunhill early morning pipe or nightcap.

Hey gang, glad to see this forum is still around. I hung around for a bit back with threads #1-10ish. I was the dude that always posted next to a burning kerosene heater in my shop. Lot of shit when down senpai. I quit smoking my pipe because my girlfriend kept giving me shit about it. I became a good boy. Welp I wound up dumping her and turns out I've been an incel the past 9 months now and then I remembered my pipe collection. So here I am with my face shoved in an old pouch of half and half and I'm palming my good old calabresi bulldog. I'm going to smoke again after a year without smoking, only problem is I can't right now. You see guys, I've been living in my parents basement ever since I broke up with my gf. When I'm smoking a lot of ash is produced. Sometimes there's so many that I can't smoke my bowl to the end - a bit of unburnt tobacco is left beneath ash. Is it normal? I'm a bit interested but am not entirely sure where to start. I figured I'd get a cheap corn cob pipe and some tobacco, but after some googling it looks like meerschaum is the best material to use. Does anyone have strong feelings about this? My wife's grandfather passed away not too long ago and left her pic related, which we've been using as a display piece, but it's clearly seen quite a bit of use. Is it disrespectful for me to use it? Is it not worth the risk of ruining it before I really know what I'm doing? Any thoughts?

He left us something I'm entirely unfamiliar with both in use and custom, so I came here looking for people's thoughts. He gave his, and I don't value it because I'm not a nihilist.
Anonymous
>>1586740 >Is it not worth the risk of ruining it before I really know what I'm doing? Meerschaum pipes are expensive and by smoking like a beginner you could damage one - it could break, it could develop a nasty aroma. I'd advise against smoking it right now. It would be better to smoke something so valuable later, after getting some experience with cheaper pipes.
It would also give you enough time to think through any moral dilemmas that you have.
>. Is it disrespectful for me to use it? I don't think so. I'd drive a car left by my relative, and I don't think it's much different than using his pipe.
Just talk about this with your wife first - it belongs to her more than it belongs to you, so if she have any issues with you using it, you really should just save up for your own meerschaum (after getting exp with cheaper pipes).
Cool pipe by the way.
