Okay so in some particular area during the summer you have to keep them unloaded, that's really not a big deal. Also, Maine changed it so you don't need a concealed weapons permit and that might apply to this too even if the website doesn't say it. In any case: if you have no intention of shooting cute furry animals you don't need to have a loaded rifle with you at all times, if you're worried about self defense just concealed carry a pistol like you usually would, if you somehow got in trouble for that the penalty would be a fine or something.

If you want to actually do shit in this world where rules, especially for guns, are all over the place you have to either be part with your guns from time to time and follow local rules to avoid ruining your trip or just decide you're going to do whatever you want regardless of the law. I hope these guys choose option 2 because they won't have 4chan in prison.
