No. Good one to two hour drive minimum to all the good /out/ and mountains, forests, lakes. Phoenix itself and the metro sucks ass for /out/.

meh, nothing close to the city. some cool hikes but all crowded with instagram thots. I live in florida now. I hated phoenix, ugly brown city. I would avoid that city all together unless youre going to ASU.

Phoenix itself is a flat plain of powdered dirt stretching for 80-100 miles, but the Superstition wilderness is an excellent place to hike, backpack, camp, fish, etc.

At least, it was until the fire this summer destroyed everything. Also, 6 months out of the year we experience 100+ degree weather.

That's true but once you're out of it you can literally be in the middle of nowhere within 30-90 minutes. There's a spot 85 miles east of Phoenix that gets 2-3 ft of snow every winter. Trout fishing 2 hrs northeast (wild trophy trout fishing 4 hrs east), warm water fishing along the SRP lakes 30-60 mins, winter sports (skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and ice fishing) 3 hrs north or 2-4 hrs east respectively (in winter obviously, some roads clsoe due to snow making drives longer sometimes), BLM shooting spots 30-60 mins east or north (when fire restrictions are lifted), hundreds of miles of hiking trails of varying difficulty and remoteness within 3 hrs north or east.You can go from Phoenix to pine forests in 2 hrs.

It's too /hot/ like 9 months out of the year, so no. I live on the edge of the city and can go hiking in the desert any time I want, but there's very few months where it's cold enough to be comfortable in the daytime. I mostly prefer to go for walks around my neighborhood at night, and in July/August it's too hot even for that.
