Take a look at both Ray Mears' "Outdoor Survival Handbook", which is *very* lightweight, and the McPherson's "Ultimate Guide to Wilderness Living". Owning all three (and others), I would carry either of those two over the SAS were I to need to be limited to only one. Ray's walks you through the seasonal changes. The McPherson's is by far the most comprehensive/detailed on the most critical subjects such as bow making, stone tools, meat, shelter and that kind of thing.
